Whole-Genome Bisulfite Sequencing
Sequence genome-wide methylation status quickly and accurately via US-based, massively parallel, next-generation sequencing (NGS).
What Is Whole-Genome Bisulfite Sequencing?
Whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) is the most commonly used methodology of discovery efforts using epigenomics by measuring the methylation status of the nucleotide cystine across the entire genome.
WGBS combines sodium bisulfite conversion of the sequence with high throughput DNA sequencing. The sodium bisulfite reaction protects methylcytosines from conversion, whereas unmethylated cytosines are converted into uracil.
Why Is Whole-Genome Bisulfite Sequencing Important?
The ability to characterize an entire organism’s methylation status offers possibilities in all fields of science. WGBS aids research in epigenome-wide studies by showing methylation status genome-wide. It can be used to identify gene expression regulation and transcription modification, which can identify different cell types and disease states.
What Can You Do?
Look Beyond the Genome
Go one step further from the gene sequence and study the transcriptional repression via methylation status
Analyze CpG Sites
Discover gene silencing mechanisms by identifying CpG islands in promoter regions, and profile single nucleotide changes of CpG, CHG, and CHH
Genome-Wide Studies
Study epigenetic mechanisms that regulate processes across the entire genome
